10 Things You Didn’t Know About Marie-Antoinette

1.-She was only 15 years old when she arrived to Versailles to marry Louis, who would be the future Louis XVI,  and 19 when she became queen.
1.- Tenía sólo 15 años cuando llego a Versalles para casarse con Luis, que más tarde sería Luis XVI,  y 19 cuando fue reina.
2.-She was soon disappointed by a boring, clumsy and shy husband whose only passion was collecting locks. 
2.-Pronto se desencantó de su marido que era aburrido, torpe y tímido y cuya única pasión era coleccionar cerraduras.
3.-It took seven years for the two of them to create an heir. Marie remained a virgin for those seven years.
3.-Tardaron siete años en producir un heredero. María permaneció virgen durante esos siete años.
4.- Each morning she saw her dressmaker, Rose Bertin, to choose what to wear to keep the title of the most beautiful woman in France
4.- Cada mañana recibía a su modista, Rose Bertin, para elegir lo que ponerse y mantener así el título de la mujer más bella de Francia.
5.-Marie-Antoinette threw out all the courtesans from Versailles and replaced them with this simple yet talented dressmaker. Together they choose lightweight silks, brocade, satins, feathers, ribbons, gauze and pearls, creating the most sumptuous of dresses. Rose Bertin was described as the “Fashion Minister” by the Queen. 
5.- María Antonieta expulsó a toda la corte de Versalles y la reemplazó por la sencilla  y talentosa modista. Juntas elegían sedas ligeras, brocados, satenes, plumas, lazos, gasas y perlas, creando los vestidos más suntuosos.  La reína llamaba a Rose Bertin, " La Ministra de la Moda"
6.-To complete the magnificent dresses, her hair dresser Leonard, designed a a kind-of hair scaffold. Her hairstyles were often one meter tall, made by a “pouf” (a cushion inflated with horse hair) tucked inside. There might be a boat or an English garden fashioned on top of her head.
6.- para completar los magníficos vestidos, su peluquero Leonard, diseñó un tipo de andamio. Su peinado media a veces un metro de altura, hecho con un "puff"( cojín relleno de pelo de caballo) Encima a veces había un barco o un jardín inglés.
7.-Neither the Queen nor the aristocrats could pass through the doors of Versailles because their voluminous dresses. When they traveled their hairstyles were so big they had to pass their head through the window of their horse coaches.
7.- Ni la reína ni la aristocracia podía pasar por las puertas de Versalles debido al volumen de los vestidos. Cuando viajaban, su peinado eran tan grande que tenían que pasar la cabeza a través de la ventana del carruaje.
8.-All the fashion victims of Versailles wanted to look like her and sometimes lost everything financially trying to copy her style
8.- Todas las Fashion Victims de Versalles querían parecersele y a veces iban a la bancarrota intentando copiarla.
9.-In 1780 many people died of starvation while Marie-Antoinette bought 170 dresses in one year. In 1783 homeless in Paris number 500,000 yet in the same year Marie-Antoinette bought 200 pairs of shoes. The French began calling her “Madame Déficit"
9.- En 1780 mucha gente murió de hambre mientras Maria Antonieta compró 170 vestidos en un año. En 1783 los sin hogar de Paris llegaron a 500.000 y sin embargo en el mismo año Maria Antonieta compró 200 pares de zapatos. Los franceses empezaron a llamarla " Madam Déficit"
10.-She wore a lace cap, a present from Rose Bertin, on her way to the guillotine (16th October 1793)
10.- Para ir a la guillotina (16 octubre 1793) llevó un gorro de seda regalo de Rose Bertin.

  5. Me encanta este personaje, lo encuentro fascinante a pesar de que tiene varias cosas que me llegan a desagradar jaja, me he visto la peli varias veces y hablando de vestuario la verdad es una pasada!

    Bonito fin!
