Trousers- Skirts- Dresses

Trousers were the most liberating piece of clothing for women, trapped in corsets and heavy crinoline until the 20th century.
I am all for liberation and freedom of any sort, but I find it sad to see our streets taken over by pants and t-shirts. The item that freed us has become a comfortable uniformed prison .
Skirts and dresses make you think, compose, combine and create.
What do you think?

  2. I think any boring or basic clothing can be a prison- if you let it. I am guilty of this, as I don't go out much it's too easy to wear shorts and a t-shirt like a daggy uniform. I got sick of doing this, and I try to make myself wear better clothing more often now.xx.

  3. Hola!

  5. I think you are right. I am resorting to trousers so much these days. I should definitely start wearing more skirts and dresses again! (It's difficult when you have to cycle everywhere!) Yours is so beautiful. I love the beautiful chiffon layers in the middle and how you matched your nailpolish to your shoes. Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments. They really really make my day!!!!! <3

  8. first of all, this is such a great post! very interesting. i rarely wear trousers, although i am aware of the fact that they are very cofortable. i prefer to sacrifice myself and put on dresses...
again, you look absolutely gorgeous! what is your secret?!

  9. I am definitely a skirts and dresses kinda girl, however I do like a good pair of shorts or a playsuit. Funnily enough if I wear a pair of trousers it will be to create a 1930's/40's look.
I agree with you I think a lot of people now associate trousers with comfort and are scared to branch away from them. We should all make more of an effort to experiment and bring back the glamour to our everyday outfits!

  10. Oh my! The skirt is MAGNIFICENT! It's so true sometimes that our clothes find US. There is a pair of pink heels that I know is calling to me from a local thrift store and I've neglected to buy them. Monday will find me there taking those babies home.

Completely agree on the pants issue!! It seems we've lost a sense of civility in our dressing. I can't remember the Old Hollywood movie star who wouldn't be caught dead in pants. And while I do like pants, skirts and dresses just make me feel more feminine and I know I carry myself a little more like a lady when I'm in one.

  12. Oh my! Those yellow boots are stunning, I want them!!!! You ALWAYS look beautiful, I am in awe of your way of dressing.
You are so right about trousers, I rarely wear them. Some woman wear them and look feminine and fabulous but most wear them like a uniform and that is never good, dressing up should be fun.xxx

Love your outfit here, Sacramento. The cool color blocking (only not really color is it?) with the pop of yellow at the feet, so perfect! You really know how to play up textures and colors without over-doing it. Lovely to see!

I, too, wish that skirts and dresses weren't so often considered "dress up" clothing. I do think I'll try to wear casual dresses more often, even for everyday life -- especially since I'm not nursing a baby anymore. That made dresses rather inconvenient.

  66. You know how I feel about trousers ;) I wear mostly dresses and skirts because I love them. I will on occasion wear some shorts with stockings underneath - which almost looks as if I'm wearing a skirt sometimes, as they are usually to a vintage style. If you look at all the eras over the decades, people have become so lazy and un kept. We take no pride in our appearance, we don't care so much about ourselves. We think seeing someone in a dress, is dressing up or over the top, when back then, it was normal. And I'm all for liberation of women, but even when women wore trousers back then, they were the finest and they were still so dressed up, because it was polite to do so. People need should take more care, there is such a beautiful art in dressing, such a shame when it's wasted on jeans and tshirts. And no one can say they dress this way because they work or having children, because the women of that time got their families through war and hunger and everything else and still found time to dress themselves up nice! It's just laziness. Have a wonderful time away this weekend visiting your daughter :)) I'll miss you, but I'll have lots to share when I return :)) Lots of love doll XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  79. I absolutely agree with you. But the human species is so silly that if everyone dressed wonderfully in skirts and dresses, then pants would be daring and deliciously outlaw again. I suppose this scenario will never happen. It's too bad that the pants I see are often stretch cotton or lycra, not the Katharine Hepburn variety. I love the man skirt.

  80. I agree with you in some parts. Althought I'm absolutely fan of skirts and dresses I'm discovering options with trousers. There are kind of models and fabrics that helps you keep your feminility. The answer is try to understand the shape of your body.

  81. That's such a great way to put it - 'a comfortable uniformed prison'. Its so boring to see everyone look the same in their casual fashion. Personally I never wear trousers or dress 'casually', never have and never will. Actually when I was a kid my dad would try to make me wear jeans or a tracksuit to school but had to give up after intense tantrums by me demanding to be allowed to wear a pretty dress haha x

  97. Though I agree skirts are amazing and I am always looking out for things that texturally and proportionally gives me a lot of room to play with..pants aren't prison to me however

    ResponderEliminar
  98. Personally, I know I look better in skirts than in pants. I can flatter my proportions better! But I think there is a lot more creative freedom these days with pants that are essentially skirts -- in all their colorful prints, textured fabrics, embellishments --but just bifurcated. I also enjoy the illusion of skirts from pants, like a favorite pair of sheer palazzo pants I had as a teen ager (long gone now but I still think of it fondly).

What impresses me from the past is how ladies managed to do such interesting things, like riding horses or bicycles, or playing tennis, even in their skirts. Our neighborhood is full of cyclists who look like they are competing in the Tour de France. If I ever ride bikes around town, it will have a basket in front with me behind in a big skirt and pretty hat ... ;) -- J xxx
